    Tools>Options>Preferences>E-Mail Options>Advanced E-Mail Options>WHEN NEW ITEMS ARRIVE IN MY INBOX.

    There are a bunch of boxes you can uncheck

    Play a sound
    Briefly change the mouse cursor
    Slow ane evnevlope icon on the notificaiton area
    Display New Mail Desktop Alert.
